While full-time Waldorf teacher education is the “royal road” for those whose life situations make it possible for them to devote a full year to becoming a Waldorf teacher, many people nowadays go for a part-time option that allows them to continue teaching while still pursuing a program that leads to a certificate in Waldorf early childhood or grades teaching. RSCC offers part time programs for both early childhood and grades.

Early Childhood Part-Time Programs

The Early Childhood program has two streams, one for Birth-to-Three and the other from Birth-to-Seven. Intake for both streams is every other year. Both will be starting in June of 2024. Birth-to-Three students take just the first year of the program while Birth-to-Seven students take both the first and second years. Foundation Studies Encounter or Distance is a pre-requisite for this program. Program details can be found on the website: Birth-to-Three program, Birth-to-Seven

Grades Part Time Program

Unlike the part time early childhood program, the grades program starts a new cohort every year in July. Part time grades students take a prescribed series of courses during the RSCC’s Summer Festival which runs for three weeks in July every year. In addition they do independent action research projects and are provided with mentoring during their program. Part time programs are intended for people who are already teaching in a Waldorf school but who wish to complete their certification. Foundation Studies Encounter or Distance is a pre-requisite for this program. Click here for program details.

About the Full-Time Program

RSCC offers what is possibly the last remaining full-time Waldorf teacher education program in the English-speaking world. There used to be full time Waldorf teacher education programs all over, in places like Emerson College in England, Spring Valley New York, Sacramento California, and Detroit Michigan.

Maybe there is another English-language full-time program for educating Waldorf teachers somewhere in the world, but if there is, we haven’t heard of it. And when we say our program is full-time, we mean it’s five days a week, running from September through May (minus the usual school holidays for Christmas and Easter), plus two weeks during the Summer Festival in July.

Within the RSCC full-time Waldorf Teacher Education program there are two streams, one for grades, and one for early childhood. RSCC has been offering this program continually, since the early 1980s. Foundation Studies Encounter or Distance is a pre-requisite for this program. Click here for more about full-time grades or full-time early childhood.
