We are a Waldorf-inspired Educational Collective. We offer drop-off programs on a beautiful
sprawling 100 acre farm. Our program is designed to provide Waldorf-inspired academic &
enrichment content, as well as immersive, nature-based learning and homestead experiences
for children fostering curiosity, creativity, and a deep connection with nature.
We are searching for a passionate Educator for our new initiative starting in Cookstown in
September 2024. We work closely with our sister initiative, Free Earth Learning Village, which is
currently operating in Mulmur, Ontario.
A good fit for our school would be a candidate who is passionate about Waldorf philosophy and
keen to jump in and build alongside a small and inspired staff as we bring our dream to fruition.
Situated on a 100 acre farm, days will be spent tending to animals, working in the garden, main
lessons, music, painting and art. A focus on outdoors and homesteading will round out our
program. Our spaces include ample pockets around the farm to roam in the meadows and
forest, and we will hold lessons in our fully renovated, converted historic barn building.
Start Date:
Hours are 9:30-3:30 Monday-Thursday beginning September 2024.
Intermittent training days will be held throughout the summer.
Role description and responsibilities:
– Welcome and greet the children in the morning
– Be a warm, calm and loving presence for them throughout the day
– Plan and lead daily indoor and outdoor lessons & activities, main lessons, and other lessons in
partnership with our Program coordinator.
– Supervise and participate all additional indoor and outdoor activities including singing, baking,
handwork, woodwork, crafts, outdoor free play, animal chores, school gatherings and
activities, etc
-Build relationships and open communication with parents, other staff and other teachers.
– Attend and partake in regular meetings, planning sessions and dreaming for our school!
– Assist and support in seasonal festival events (Lantern Walk, May fest,
Christmas concert, etc.)
-Attend training days this summer (approx 4-5 days total)

Homeschooling Pod in Nova Scotia Looking for Waldorf Grades Teacher
We are looking to hire a Waldorf main lesson teacher three days a week for a homeschooling pod located on a beautiful 30 acre biodynamic homesteading farm in Blockhouse, Nova Scotia (“Canada’s Ocean Playground”). The teacher would offer a main lesson and stay with the students through their morning recess and lunch break. The afternoons are for specialty classes that rotate with the seasons in 7-week blocks. A “main lesson” is a balanced school lesson that features movement, recall, story, artistic work, book work, etc.
The farm has plenty of space and lots of new projects always underway. Apple orchards, large gardens, a green house, chickens, goats, wool sheep, honey bees, chickens, guinea hens, angora rabbits, peacocks, ducks, etc. are some of the features of the property and project. We have also recently welcomed a horse for trail-riding/horsemanship skills, and there are plans for a milk cow (we currently have access to a local cow share for fresh milk). The area has one of the best farmers markets in Canada, with access to amazing biodynamic and organic food, peaceful forests, amazing beaches, etc. Blockhouse itself has many great resources, all within walking distance. Chicory Blue General Store, which has been lovingly restored from its previous general store life into an organic grocery and gardening supply store and restaurant/café, is only 2km away! Blockhouse also has an organic French bakery, a thriving antique market, local hardware store, as well as the South Shore Waldorf School.
We have a strong anthroposophical community, festival life and social opportunities. This area offers a very high standard of living for a naturalist and their family.
We are looking for a teacher to join us in teaching main lesson 3 mornings a week from 8:30-1pm. This is the minimum amount of work available; more hours can be arranged for the teacher to teach specialty classes of their interest and abilities in the afternoons, or at their motivation to offer to the community. Competitive wages will be compensated for. Accommodation could be provided if needed and if willing to be content with simple and humble living on the property, or to board with a family in a separate private accommodation. A Waldorf-trained teacher with experience would be best but we are willing to train the right candidate with similar life experience or an interest and willingness.
Curriculum and mentoring will be provided. There is a large supportive community that would be welcoming you, and helping to guide the teaching if that is needed. Summary Description
The Director of Waldorf Early Childhood Teacher Education leads Rudolf Steiner College Canada’s (RSCC) Waldorf Early Childhood Teacher Education programs. Reporting to the RSCC executive director, this role embraces pedagogical responsibilities and program administration. The director is the lead instructor and organizer of the Waldorf Early Childhood Teacher Education one-year full-time program and the two part-time programs: the one-year Birth-to-Three program, and the two-year Birth-to-Seven program.
The director is responsible for the delivery and quality of programs including content provided by other faculty members and contributes actively to course design improvements. Beyond RSCC the director is an important participant in international discussions on early childhood teacher education and consults with early childhood education colleagues around the world: engaging in pedagogical research and representing RSCC at the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America (WECAN) and the International Association of Steiner/Waldorf Early Childhood Education (IASWECE).
Candidate Qualifications
- Expert knowledge of the anthroposophical understanding of human development with a focus on early childhood including the pre-birth period, the changing nature of the infant/child consciousness, and the conditions and techniques required for supporting infant/child development in family and childcare settings
- Expert knowledge of Waldorf pedagogy both conceptual and practical, including an understanding of how Waldorf approaches are relevant to early childhood education, and how an anthroposophical approach differs from other approaches to early childhood education.
- Capacity to design and present sophisticated adult education courses based on more than five-years of relevant experience, combining a strong ego presence with the delicacy and warmth of soul required for early childhood education.
- Strong administrative capacities to manage program enrollment, fundraising proposals, regulatory requirements and other administrative tasks
