Saturdays 1:30 pm to 2:45 pm, September 10 to November 19, Chapel Room, Trinity St. Paul Church, 427 Bloor Street West, Toronto.

This fall, the eurythmy sessions will take shape around a small poem by D.H. Lawrence entitled Healing. Its eight lines are full of wisdom and full of opportunities for exploring varied and lively qualities of movement (soft, sharp, passive but penetrating, strongly directed etc.) and working in depth with the sounds whose natures best express them.

The centerpiece for tone eurythmy is a Bach adagio for piano that begins with the simplest musical motif and develops gradually, organically into ever lovelier melodies and harmonies.  A drawing by Rudolf Steiner, depicting evolutionary development in a series of lines, will inspire the form.  The therapeutic power of Bach will have its own effect while we busy ourselves with the rhythms and pitches!

We are joined again by Kim Kendrick, who’ll support the classes with recitation and piano accompaniment.  You will recall Kim from the spring eurythmy concert where she introduced the pieces, spoke the poems and sang, all with a skill remarked upon by everyone.

Single class $25   Full 11 week series $250 (no class September 24)

“Healing” by D.H. Lawrence

I am not a mechanism, an assembly of various sections.
And it is not because the mechanism is working wrongly, that I am ill.
I am ill because of wounds to the soul, to the deep emotional self
and the wounds to the soul take a long, long time, only time can help
and patience, and a certain difficult repentance
long, difficult repentance, realization of life’s mistake,
and the freeing oneself from the endless repetition of the mistake
which mankind at large has chosen to sanctify.
