Trapeze, aerial silks, unicycling, tightrope-walking and juggling are just a few of the many activities participants tried out during the circus arts course at the RSCC Summer Festival. Course leader was Toronto Waldorf School teacher Mary-lu Spinney, who also led the Grade 5 intensive during week one.

On the Friday of that week, everyone was invited to a demonstration in which the circus arts course participants could show off some of the skills they had learned over the week. Mary-lu said she was encouraged to see how willing people were to try out so many new things. She said that in order to teach circus arts it’s not so important to be good at them yourself, but to have a good grounding in the safety procedures, and a basic familiarity with the techniques of each activity.
